The Planning and Development Department strives to set the highest possible standards and expectations for our customers and residents while implementing the various codes of the city. Planning & ZoningPlanning and Zoning reviews new and renovation projects as well as rezonings, conditional uses, variances, site plans, and subdivision applications. Plans are reviewed for completeness and compliance with the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. |

Building & Fire Prevention Construction Services
Building and Fire Prevention Construction Services is tasked with oversight of all new construction projects, additions, and alterations of existing structures; fire life safety and fire protective systems; plan review; inspections; and final acceptance. These services are accomplished through enforcement of the provisions of the Florida Building Code, the Florida Fire Prevention Code, and the City of Mount Dora Code of Ordinance.
Community Redevelopment
Community Redevelopment is tasked with improving the city’s public grounds and infrastructures, such as parking, road rights of way, and parks. These improvements are intended to encourage investment into private properties and increase business activity.
Historic Preservation
Historic Preservation protects the buildings of Mount Dora that provide a tangible record of the history and development of the community. Decisions regarding alterations to historic buildings are based on the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings and the Mount Dora Historic Preservation Guidelines.

Bio:
Vince Sandersfeld is the City of Mount Dora Planning and Development Director. Sandersfeld brings 29 years of experience in community development, planning, zoning, redevelopment, comprehensive plans, land use, master plans, permitting, development plans, and urban design. He was appointed Interim Director in March 2016. His previous position with Mount Dora includes six years as the City’s Planning Coordinator/Manager. He worked as a planner for a local city government in Central Florida for 20 consecutive years and has problem-solving skills, a long history in managing within a complex regulatory environment, and experiencing growth land use challenges. Sandersfeld has dedicated his career to serving the public and helping the community collectively shape their living environment.
The position oversees seven separate functions: 1) Long range Planning; 2) Zoning; 3) Development Review; 4) Building and Fire Construction Services (permitting and inspection); 5) Historic Preservation; 6) two Community Redevelopment Agencies and 7) Business Tax Receipts License. Planning staff also coordinates the Development Review Committee (DRC).
Sandersfeld received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University. Member of the American Planning and Zoning Association/Florida Chapter, Florida Redevelopment Association, and participated in the Florida Planning and Zoning Association (Past Central Florida Chapter Officer - Secretary). Member of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.
